Gasperini responds to Fonseca’s outburst: “The attempt is to talk about something else and not the race”

Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini commented on the victory against Milan on ‘Sky’: “For us it is a great victory which came against a team that has very strong players. We won it in a deserved way, with all the numbers in our favour. The match was difficult, but I think we deserve the victory”.

How was the match from the stands?
“We started with an opportunity for Milan, then we had one for ourselves. After taking the lead we soon had a bad run, their speed worried us but we always managed to close. We built with clarity and avoided their pressing, building excellent situations. In the second half they did less, while we were never satisfied. We never wasted time, we never threw ourselves to the ground, we always tried to score.”

Fonseca spoke of the match being guided by the referee in favor of Atalanta
“There’s an attempt to talk about something else and not the match. I didn’t have this feeling, CDK’s goal was splendid, it went very high. I don’t remember any other disputed episodes, other than a few throw-ins. I’m totally convinced that we deserved the victory and we are also very happy about it.”

The fans ask for the tricolour…
“I believe that it has never happened in Bergamo after 15 games and therefore we have to let it sing. We have never found ourselves first in the standings after so many games and let’s let them sing. Then the people here in Bergamo are very down to earth: we are there, there’s celebration, if in twenty games we’ll still be there it would make sense but this way it’s just a game event and a justified one at that.”
