Identity and planning: Giampaolo wants to revive Lecce by playing football

Turbulent days at Lecce. Following the home draw with Empoli, the Salento club decided to relieve coach Luca Gotti of his duties and entrusted the technical guidance of the first team to coach Marco Giampaolo. “A man of the field” as Pantaleo Corvino defined him, who justified his predecessor’s dismissal by leveraging the theme of identity. A value that the new helmsman is called upon to rediscover, as underlined in the presentation conference.

Gotti and the reasons for his dismissal.
The feeling is that Gotti paid neither for the draw against Empoli nor for the third-to-last place in the standings, -1 from the safety zone, after all, Lecce by its nature is required to navigate sometimes stormy waters. The choices of a technical nature had an impact above all, i.e. the numerous adjustments to the training, both in terms of the game system and from the point of view of the interpreters. The Giallorossi have changed a lot under Gotti, practically always, and despite this they have not managed to change course. Corvino recalled the defense in favor of Baroni in the spring of 2023, when the current Lazio coach was not sacked despite a very difficult period; this is because his Lecce, despite some turbulence, had overall clear ideas.

Giampaolo: save Lecce by playing football.
“I want to play football.” This is the belief of the new Lecce coach, who can’t wait to immerse himself in the Giallorossi reality. He will have a national break available, however the absences (between called-ups and injured players) will complicate his work in the short term. Giampaolo wants redemption and Lecce is the right opportunity to become a “master” again.
