The response to Conte and that to Scaroni. Marotta speaks on the sidelines of the ‘Liedholm Prize’

On Tuesday 12 November Beppe Marotta, president of Inter, received the ‘Niels Liedholm Award’ in Cuccaro Monferrato and for the occasion he spoke to the media present, touching on various topics and not missing an opportunity to even launch a distant jab at his alter ego in Rossoneri Scaroni, who the day before had said that he was “the president of the only real team of Milan”.

So here comes Marotta’s response: “It depends on your point of view… If he represents the only team in Milan, perhaps we represent something even superior. I don’t want to cause controversy, Paolo is a friend and everyone tries to advance their own club by defining it as the best I hope that Milan can reach the second star as soon as possible.”

There was also space for an analysis of Inter’s form: “Our performances in the Champions League seem very respectable to me. In the championship we are one point from the top. Even last year we were hunters and Juventus were the hare, now Napoli are ahead. What changes compared to last year is that there are a small group of teams that deservedly occupy the top positions. It’s all still a long way off, there are many games and many points and so for now it is essential to stay at the top. Then January and February will be the months determinants”.

And Marotta also responded to the controversies raised by Conte: “I believe that with technology the situation improves, errors decrease. If I have to refer to what happened on Sunday and to the invocation of Conte, an intelligent person and great communicator who will certainly have his objective when he speaks, I must say that the the referee was very close to the action, so there was certainly physical contact, the foot was moved and therefore in my opinion it was a penalty. If we then have to discuss a better use of VAR in terms of protocol this is part of a constructive debate that must be had within the football system.”
