The Pisa coach Pippo Inzaghi spoke to the microphones of Sky Sports on the sidelines of a charity event in Milan: “After almost 350 benches in my career I try to have fun, in Pisa I’m doing it, I have a fantastic group, a good club and a fan base that is getting closer and closer to the team and making its contribution felt support. I had wanted to coach this team for a few years because I knew several guys having coached them in the past and I knew how this club works. I hope that in these two years, which I hope will be even longer, we can have fun and bring the place even closer to the team.”
Then there is room for the label of a Serie B coach: “In Italy we are good at giving labels, but if you coach good teams in the academy then you get positive results. However, I believe that even Benevento in Serie A, who set out to save themselves, fought for their goal until the end. The series doesn’t interest me, after Milan I went to Venice where I won the Serie C and that remains one of the most important experiences of my career. I’m happy with what I did and also with the mistakes that made me a better coach.”
Then there is space for what we have learned from Carlo Ancelotti: “Carlo was a friend and knew when to get angry, I also try to have a good relationship with my boys, but I also demand a lot on and off the pitch. He always told the truth, even the raw one, he didn’t use subterfuge and I think he was of great aspiration for all of us who embarked on this career.”
Inzaghi then talks about the Serie A scorers’ ranking which sees two Italians at the top: “They are two players who have grown a lot. Retegui is impressing me and Kean is doing great things. I hope it is a good omen for the national team.”
Finally, a joke about the Scudetto fight: “Never before has it been as balanced as this year. Napoli have an advantage because in addition to having a very strong team and a great coach they don’t play in European cups and this counts. The Champions League takes away a lot of energy. – concludes Inzaghi – Then there are the usual rivals like Inter and Juventus, but there could also be a surprise like Atalanta who can challenge for the Scudetto by also taking advantage of a fan base that can give an extra boost. It will be fought until the end.”
