On the occasion of his 50th birthday, Federico Buffa and Federico Ferri interviewed the champion Alex Del Piero: a unique journey, from the dream of the number 10 to the triumphs with which he wrote history at Juventus and beyond. “When we were relegated to Serie B with Juventus we found a championship that was totally different from what I was and we were used to. That was a dramatic moment for Juve. There was a lot of hatred towards us, we were the scapegoats, who had to suffer on the pitch. Personally, I had already been there in Serie B at Padova, even scoring my first and only goal.”
Del Piero then also spoke about his possible return to Juventus as a manager: “I believe that a person, or more than one person in the entourage of a club, who has participated in the club’s history must be there and must hold roles. The link that I have with Juve, that is, all the people who participated in my journey with Juventus, remains as beautiful as it was at the time. I will never dirty it with anything, if I ever have a role in this club to the fans, you can feel the pitch factor. Do you know what it means to have people cheering even for a slip, a run-up, obviously for a goal? Stadiums like modern ones, so close to the players, make you fly.”
