Mauro Icardi tore the cruciate ligament in his knee and will be out for (at least) six months, ending the season here. It is terrible news for Galatasaray and its fans, given that the Argentine had already scored six goals in the first part of the championship and cups and that, in a year and a half, he had played 47 matches and scored 32 goals in all competitions in particular 25 (and 9 assists) in 34 Super Lig. In short, when Icardi played, Galatasaray started from 1-0, but with Osimhen in the pair the situation was even better.
However, what will not be possible is Icardi’s return to the top five leagues in Europe. After having played in Italy, with Inter, and France, with Paris Saint Germain, the feeling is that the broken knee will not allow him to find another high-level team. Which is already not easy given that the three-year contract would have expired in 2026, with very high figures – 11 million euros – and that only a possible spread would have given someone the opportunity to aim for it. Although the difficulty would have come even with half the Turkish salary.
In short, for the first time Icardi is faced with a serious physical problem. It remains to be seen what he will do in 2026, when the contract ends and he will be able to choose a new destination. Even if perhaps in Italy (and perhaps in the Europe of the big leagues) we will never see him again.
