PedroLazio striker, spoke in the mixed area after the victory against Porto in the Europa League:
“It was a very important victory. We are the only team that has won all the matches so far, but the road is still long and we must continue like this. Today was a wonderful success, achieved with a great performance against a strong opponent like the Port.”
You’re 37, but it seems like a great time for you. The renewal?
“I feel good and I’m in a good moment. As for the renewal, we haven’t talked about it seriously yet; for now it’s not a priority. I’ve often discussed it with the coach, and the president jokes about it by telling me ‘you have to continue, you’re fine now. ‘. We’ll see how the season ends, then we’ll decide together.”
What has changed compared to last year?
“Many things, starting with the arrival of the coach, who is doing an extraordinary job. The staff, from the nutritionist to the doctor, also have an important role. The new arrivals have given balance to the team, combining experience and youth. Being in a such a positive context gives us an extra boost, and the results are coming. It’s great for all of us.”
Why is this Lazio more competitive?
“It’s the result of collective work and a changed mentality. We are more aggressive and attentive in every match. Of course, we can win or lose, but every match this year has been exciting.”
How do you hide Lazio now?
“In my opinion we can no longer hide. Porto is a team that always fights for the title, with great experience in Europe. They are a very strong team, and today we showed that we are too. With the winning mentality that we have now, we can play with anyone. It’s true that the journey in the Europa League is still long, but we must continue on this path.”
How do you feel about becoming a Lazio idol at the age of 40?
“Age matters, but I feel in excellent shape. My teammates appreciate me, there is good harmony in the group and this gives you confidence and motivation to train better and better. When there is this climate, the results come naturally .”
What’s special about this group?
“It’s a group that works hard and stays together. We have to avoid getting caught up in the euphoria, but we know that with this spirit and mentality we are a difficult team to beat.”
How will you transform this positive energy in view of Monza?
“We have little time to prepare, so it will be important to rest and prepare well. We cannot afford mistakes, so we will have to stay focused and face the match at our best.”
