Del Piero from the Bernabeu remembers 5 November 2008: “It’s wonderful for me to be back here…”

Former striker Alessandro Del Piero, present in Madrid for the Champions League match between Real Madrid and Milanspoke to Sky Sports from the Bernabeu pitch, recalling his past encounter which took place in 2008 when, on 5 November just like today, his Juve conquered the Blancos pitch, with the public however greeting the exit of the Juventus number 10 from the pitch with a real and a standing ovation.

Del Piero says, remembering those days: “It’s amazing for me to come back here and remember moments like that. This is a monumental stadium in so many ways… When they gave me the standing ovation it was nice, now I also have the pleasure of being able to experience Madrid a little more. A special night from every point of view.”

The former Juventus striker continues and concludes: “As an opponent you knew that you were facing history but also a huge club of the present, there is a special relationship between this team and this cup. They feel that the Champions League evenings are different from the championship ones, it seems as if the messes that happen , the problems disappear for an hour and a half. And here they devastate you. But I want to remember that day when we came here to win with Juventus.”
