The coach Francesco Guidolinwho also managed Bologna in his career from 1999 to 2003 as well as having played there as a footballer for one season (1982/83), and a double ex of this evening’s Champions League match against Monaco, talks about the issues connected to the match during an interview with Il Resto del Carlino.
He begins by retracing his Monegasque adventure: “It was beautiful, my first abroad. I also bought a house a stone’s throw from the Louis II stadium, a wonderful environment. I would have gladly stayed for the second year of the contract, then Palermo called me back to Italy and I was too attached to it We finished third in the first leg, then in the second leg we dropped and finished tenth.” And in that team, among others, there were also the Italian forwards Christian Vieri and Marco Di Vaio, the latter now sporting director of Bologna.
On the current Bologna, however, Guidolin says: “The Champions League is an extraordinary result. It’s clear that you’re up against the strongest teams in the world, but even in defeats Bologna didn’t disfigure themselves. Now it’s time to score points.” And on Italiano, he concludes: “Excellent coach, he had the courage to take up Motta’s heavy legacy together with a team that lost some important pieces in the summer. Now, however, I see a growing Bologna and this makes me say that with Monaco he can also play it: why not, aiming for victory”.
