The joke is all too obvious: Toro gives a “treat” to Juric, Roma plays the “trick” on the Granata. It’s a bitter Halloween for Vanoli and his boys, who once again take two steps backwards after one forward. The personality test in the capital under the eyes of President Cairo failed, so the Croatian thanks his former team and tries to hold on to the Giallorossi. The Granata coach, however, begins to raise his voice, also because Toro was too bad to be true at the Olimpico. The worst part of his management? “Yes, I really think so – replied Vanoli – and there were no signs because after a difficult match like the one in Como we achieved three points which could have given us a little more serenity, but I am very angry because especially in the the first 25 minutes we had no personality.”
Now on the horizon there are two more very hard peaks to climb: on Sunday Fiorentina will present themselves at the Olimpico Grande Torino stadium in their best form, next Saturday the Granata will visit the Allianz Stadium for the derby against Juve which everyone knows how much both taboo, with only one victory in the last thirty years. “At the start of the championship we were more fluid, we have to understand if it’s time to change something or whether to continue on this path – Vanoli’s recipe for finding his Toro – because the midfielders didn’t attack the depth much, the strikers never helped us to keep the ball and turn it over, the fifths struggled to find space to attack.” The move to a back four is a thought that has been in the coach’s mind for several months, even if the paradox is that the match in Rome was one of the matches in which the Granata conceded fewer opportunities to their opponent. Vanoli only has 48 hours to think about it, on Sunday at 3pm we’ll be back on the field again. And the primary objective is not to have to look over our shoulders instead of up after Fiorentina and Juve, the last two matches before the new break for the national teams.
