Final result: Venezia-Udinese 3-2
VENICE (edited by Daniele Najjar)
Stankovic 5.5 – A few too many wrong referrals, including the one on which Pohjanpalo gets ahead of himself (and the Friulian double arrives). Also two good responses in Lucca though. He could have done something more especially on Bravo’s goal.
Altar 6 – The task of withstanding the impact of Juventus’ physicality was not easy, but he and Svoboda are keeping good guard tonight against opponents of great size.
From 80′ Sverko sv
Svoboda 6 – Good fight against Lucca, they held up well and it wasn’t easy, despite Udinese finding too much space in the first half. However, even in the set pieces, the weak link of the lagoon players so far, he is careful: the high balls are all his.
Haps 6.5 – One of the most positive in the anonymous first half: it’s true that Udinese often attacks from their side, but they handle the attack with great determination, even when they find a giant (compared to them) like Lucca. Di Francesco rewards him by leaving him on the pitch and he remains focused until the end.
Candle 5 – He is never seen in the push phase: Touré has too easy a job controlling him. Also on his part there was little filter in the defensive phase.
From 46′ Zampano 6.5 – A completely different verve and determination, paired with Oristanio he becomes a thorn in Udinese’s left side.
Nicolussi Ankle 6.5 – Game with two faces. He messes up too much with Udinese’s pressing, struggling to give the team geometry for the first half. In the second half they shook like all of Venezia and the free kick weighed like a boulder for their team. And it also makes them gain confidence in the setup phase.
From 73′ Andersen sv
Duncan 6.5 – A little better than Nicolussi Caviglia in the setting phase in the first half and he brings more clarity in the interdiction phase. He has the merit of giving Pohjanpalo the ball from which the penalty kick was born and of playing the charge in the second half, recovering many balls.
Ellertsson 6 – It was a difficult first half for him too, who improved in the second half. He places a ball only for Pohjanpalo to push into the net, but he arrives late to the ball.
Yeboah 5 – He has the opportunity to show himself from the first minute, but he doesn’t make the most of it. Payero also gives him an inviting ball, but he kicks weakly. Postponed.
From 46′ Oristanio 7.5 – He comes in and immediately runs away, offering a golden ball to Duncan, who wastes it. Then he causes Touré to get a red card and the equalizer comes from the free kick he earns. He is the one who changes the match and the face of Venezia.
Busio 6.5 – Not arriving in the first half, he lights up in the second half together with his teammates and comes close to scoring several times. His is the break that rewards Oristanio’s cut and leads to Touré’s red card (and Nicolussi Caviglia’s goal from a free kick).
From 73′ Gytkjaer sv
Pohjanpalo 7 – Busio serves him the first good ball and gets the penalty, which he scores coolly. It wasn’t a given, also because he missed his first penalty of the season and hadn’t scored in 4 games. Then again he goes to the spot and scores another penalty of incalculable importance for Venezia. He rewards his people, who remained faithful to him even when they seemed in difficulty.
All. Eusebio Di Francesco 7 – In the first half Venezia suffers a deadly one-two from Udinese. His gestures are clear, as are his changes: he believes in it until the end and Venezia wins in their own way, with a proactive game that is rewarded in the end. He comes back to serve as an oxygen tank.
UDINESE (edited by Andrea Carlino)
Okoye 6 – In the first half he limits himself to ordinary administration with safe interventions on the lagoon players’ conclusions. In the second half he conceded three goals, but the responsibility is not his but rather that of the defense which leaves him too exposed to opposing attacks. In fact, avoid a heavier liability.
Toure 4.5 – A performance to forget for the defender, the negative protagonist of the Venetian comeback. The expulsion for a second yellow card in the 65th minute left his teammates numerically inferior in the most delicate moment of the match. Before the red card, a series of imprecise interventions and incorrect positioning which favored the incursions of the opposing attackers.
Bijol 5 – His defensive leadership fails just when more solidity is needed. In the first half he held his position well, but in the second half he progressively lost confidence. Nervous, he also gets a warning at the end.
Giannetti 5.5 – A good first half with timely finishes and a decent contribution in the build-up phase. In the second half he dropped noticeably, losing several aerial duels with the Venetian attackers. From 61′ Zarraga 5 – His entry does not bring the hoped-for benefits, struggling to find the right position on the pitch.
Ehizibue 5.5 – On the right wing he alternates good progressions with moments of difficulty in the defensive phase. His overlaps created some problems for the Venetian rearguard in the first half, but in the second half he gradually disappeared from the match, limiting himself to containing the opponents’ advances.
Lovric 6.5 – The best of his. The goal that unlocks the match is a ballistic jewel of rare beauty. His performance is enhanced by a series of plays of high technical quality and constant pressing on the opposing ball carriers. From 78′ Thauvin 5.5 – He comes in when the team is already in difficulty and is unable to make an impact.
Karlstrom 5.5 – In the middle of the pitch he struggles to take control of the game. His playmaking is too predictable and he is often overwhelmed by the dynamism of the Venetian midfielders. The warning in the second half further affected their performance.
Payero 5.5 – A subpar performance for the midfielder, who never really manages to get into the game. Too many errors in the setup phase and little clarity in the choices. The warning received is a symptom of a bad evening.
Kamara 5.5 – On the left wing he is unable to have the impact he would like. His progressions are often predictable and he rarely puts the Venetian rearguard in difficulty. From the 61st minute Zemura 5.5 – He fails to give the desired shock in the left-handed lane.
Good 6.5 – The momentary 2-0 goal is the icing on a high-level performance. His movements constantly create problems for Venezia’s defense and his understanding with Lucca works perfectly in the first half. From the 54th minute Kabasele 5.5 – His entry coincides with the beginning of the Venetian comeback.
Lucca 6 – In the first half he moved well, creating space for his teammates and actively participating in the offensive maneuver. In the second half he was progressively isolated, receiving few playable balls. 78′ Davis 5.5 – In the final minutes he fails to impact the match.
Kosta Runjaic 5 – His team dominates for an hour of play, but inexplicably collapses in the second half. The changes did not have the desired effect and the tactical management after Touré’s expulsion was confusing. A defeat that should make us reflect on the mental stability of the team.
