A minute of silence in Spain for the victims of the flood. Valencia-Real at risk

The extreme weather event that caused dozens of deaths in Spain due to heavy rains and violent floods (DANA), particularly in the Valencia region, has led to the postponement of two Copa del Rey matches but could cause others. Even the match between Valencia and Real Madridscheduled for Saturday 1 November at the Mestalla, could in fact be postponed if the situation in the Spanish capital remains chaotic.

Meanwhile, LaLiga has confirmed that, in agreement with the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), a minute’s silence will be observed in all LaLiga EA Sports and LaLiga Hypermotion matches that will be played next weekend, in memory of the victims of the floods. A minute’s silence will also be observed in the Copa del Rey matches scheduled for tonight and tomorrow. Professional football thus joins in the general condolences and has expressed its solidarity with the relatives of the victims and missing persons, at the same time collaborating in the maximum diffusion of the telephone number authorized to assist the relatives of missing persons: 900 365 112.

DANA is a weather phenomenon that generally occurs in the western Mediterranean, including Spain, and is the acronym for Depresion Aislada en Niveles Altos. Furthermore, it is also a tribute to Francisco Garcia Dana, a meteorologist who died in 1984. DANA is unleashed when a large mass of cold air isolated at high altitude forms a depression that collides with the warm air at low altitude. This contrast creates intense rain and “V” thunderstorms which become even stronger near the mountain ranges.
