Bologna doesn’t agree on a neutral pitch: the match against Milan is heading towards a postponement

Bologna-Milan is heading towards postponement. The match valid for the ninth matchday of Serie A could be postponed to a later date because during the League Assembly taking place in Milan at this moment, a rather clear position is emerging from the rossoblù club regarding the possibility of playing the match in neutral field.
This morning during the meeting with the Prefect of Bologna, the mayor of the Emilian city, Matteo Lepore, reiterated the reasons that pushed him yesterday with an order to close the Dall’Ara for tomorrow’s match. But the news is that in the last few minutes even the hypothesis of playing elsewhere (the designated stadium was the Castellani in Empoli) is losing credibility because it is not appreciated by Bologna. At this point, the postponement to a later date is the most probable hypothesis.

Yesterday the Mayor of Bologna Matteo Lepore closed the Dall’Ara with this ordinance: “Bologna-Milan will not be played on Saturday at the Dall’Ara. The Mayor, having consulted the Police Commissioner and the Prefect, this afternoon signed an ordinance ordering the suspension of the football match scheduled for Saturday 26 October 2024 at 6pm at the Renato Dall’Ara stadium.
Following the flood which affected the Municipality of Bologna from 19 October in some areas of the city – we read in the ordinance – and in particular in the Porto-Saragozza district (precisely where the Dall’Ara Stadium is located), intense activities to restore the situation in public areas and private properties.

The intense rains of these days and the weather forecasts for the next few days do not allow us to predict a return to normality in the next few hours, also given the weather alert issued for tomorrow.
Furthermore, the Bologna-Milan match would bring around 35,000 people to the Dall’Ara stadium, in via Andrea Costa and therefore near the most critical area of the city, with consequent public order problems due to the presence of fans and the closure of traffic in the entire surrounding area from early afternoon until night.
All this would create considerable difficulties for ongoing operations and would aggravate the context in which that area already finds itself, creating risks for the safety and security of people.
The need to suspend the Bologna/Milan match was shared by the Mayor during this afternoon’s meeting of the Rescue Coordination Center held at the Bologna Prefecture.”
