Federico Chiesa, in 2021 it cost 100 million. Now it may be a case in Liverpool

For a period Federico Chiesa was worth 100 million. It was 2021, Italy had just won a European Championship and it seemed they could return to greatness after failing to qualify for Russia 2018. Liverpool intended to spend a very high sum to buy him, but Juventus wasn’t listening: Chiesa had made false claims a year before to be able to leave Fiorentina, in a two-year loan for around 60 million. In recent days Commisso had claimed the choice of wanting to keep him, only to then be almost “forced”, explaining however that he had made “a deal”. And that’s probably exactly how it is.

Because Chiesa alternated good things with less good ones during the Juventus years. The problem was also a cruciate injury which greatly limited his explosive strength compared to what it was in the first seasons. It remains to be seen whether he will be able to recover, because now he is starting to be a small case at Liverpool too, where so far he has only played 78 minutes in three appearances.

Arne Slot talked about it like this the other day. “It is definitely a big disappointment to see him so little involved in training. I sincerely feel sorry for him, but with a long-term contract in place, we remain hopeful that he will contribute significantly once he is fully fit. Unfortunately, his name has only appeared on the starters list once or twice so far.” Federico Chiesa turns 27 today.
