Ferrara: “Motta has the style and is empathetic like Lippi. I imagine him fiery in the locker room”

Ciro Ferraraformer defender of Juventus and today commentator for DAZN, gave a long interview to La Gazzetta dello Sportcomparing Thiago Motta to Marcello Lippi: “I see him again in his style and ability to create empathy with the group. The impression is that Motta is calm in public, but fiery in the locker room. Just like Lippi. I experienced Marcello’s anger firsthand. I didn’t experience Thiago I know, but from the outside I imagine it like this. The compactness of our Juve team in ’95-’96, even in winning the ball back, I see it in Motta’s Juve, but I would stop here with the comparisons.”

Is Thiago Motta further ahead or further behind than you would have imagined in the summer?
“It depends on your point of view. The fact of conceding a few goals is very positive, above all because it is clear that the whole team is involved in the defensive phase. But above all in midfield it has yet to find a defined structure in terms of men. Napoli’s starters and Inter know each other, Juve’s not yet. Motivating the whole squad is important, but to get to the end you also need certainties and a typical formation.”

Is there a player from Motta’s Juve who would have found space in 1996?
“No. Maximum respect, but if our Juve won everything it was because something perfect had been created. I wouldn’t change anything about that team, not even
the warehouseman”.
