Wenderson Galeno could have been from Juventus. But Porto was asking for more than 35 million

He could have been one of Juventus’ performers this season. Instead Wenderson Galen remained at Portoeven doing it discreetly. During the month of July there had been contacts for both him and Francisco Conceicao: the former was always valued between 35 and 40 million, while for Conceicao the environmental problem – after the dismissal of Sergio, his father – had had the upper hand. For this reason he was loaned out to Juventus for 7 million (plus 3 in bonuses) and the promise of talking about a permanent title next summer.

In the last two seasons he has been one of Porto’s best, scoring 30 goals as a winger, also earning a call-up to Brazil eight years after arriving in Portugal. The turning point at the end of 2021: 10 goals in a few months, including six in six Europa League matches which convinced Porto, his first club in Europe – to bring him home.

This year he has already scored six goals in the league, including three as a full-back in the first four games of the season. The president of Porto, André Villas Boas, spoke like this in recent weeks about Galen’s commitment. “He made an excellent start to the season, sacrificing himself in another role (left-back, ed.) for the good of the team. He undoubtedly deserves our recognition for this. We only received one request for Galeno, which was immediately rejected.” Today Wenderson Rodrigues do Nascimento Galeno turns 27.
