Kumbulla flop at Roma: “It’s annoying to receive harsh criticism. I immediately regret Berardi’s football”

Interviewed by Corriere dello Sportthe Albanian defender Marash Kumbulla he also recounted his unfortunate adventure at Roma between 2020 and 2024. “The Giallorossi fans simply don’t remember me as a footballer. It’s a bit annoying to receive harsh criticism. In Italy for a year and a half I no longer expressed my potential But I have enough self-esteem to move forward. You can’t do this job if you fixate on it. I knew that sooner or later I’d be back. Now I’m even better than when Roma bought me, because I’ve gained more experience and maturity.” declared the centre-back currently on loan to Espanyol from the Giallorossi.

On why things haven’t gone well in recent years, Kumbulla thinks like this: “I think the explanation is simple: I’m a player who needs to be at the top physically. After breaking my cruciate, many of my colleagues took a few months before returning. at good levels. Unfortunately in the six months with Sassuolo, or rather since February, I was injured and I wasn’t able to express myself to the fullest. I was disappointed.”

Not just mistakes and controversies, Kumbulla still remembers the experience with the Roma shirt also for some happy moments and positive aspects: “The best memory is the goal against Real Sociedad, in the Europa League. The worst was the expulsion against Sassuolo. That kick to Berardi was an instinctive gesture that I immediately regretted. Unfortunately it was too late to go back and that episode cost us the match”, added the player born in 2000. he returned to express himself at high levels.
