Piqué: “We should call the leagues and tell them that the leagues should have 16 teams”

Gerard Piquefounder of the Kings League and former Barcelona defender, spoke at a round table at Leaders Week in London, proposing a solution to the too many matches that the teams have to face: “We should reduce them, call all the leagues and tell them that the championships should have 16 teams, instead of 20. There are too many matches – we read on SportFace.it -, in summer there is no time to rest. I would ask UEFA why they created the Nations League, and I would do the same with FIFA and the Club World Cup. I understand that they want to generate more revenue but, for the good of football, it would be better to have fewer matches and focus more on exclusive experiences.”

Yesterday Piqué instead spoke about the Kings League: “The growth trajectory it is having has already exceeded all expectations, but this is only the beginning of our journey to revolutionize the sport and increasingly involve our audience. The new CEO Djamel Agaoua brings with him experience of exponentially growing a business globally, which will be instrumental in accelerating our expansion as well.

Together, we will transform our unique platform into a sustainable global ecosystem, enabling the world’s leading creators to create unique sports franchises and tap into a vast global audience while creating one of the most entertaining platforms in the world.”
