Lukaku talks about his almost farewell to Belgium: “Henry called me three times a day”

Romelu Lukaku, Napoli striker and the Belgian national team, spoke on the podcast ‘Amici di Sport’ addressing various topics related to his relationship with the Belgian national team shirt.

Joys, certainly, but also pains. Like for example when, after the World Cup in Qatar, he was about to say goodbye to the Red Devils: “I hope to rediscover the passion of playing for the national team, that the fire burns in me again for the Red Devils. After Qatar I cried every day for weeks. The next goal with the Red Devils is the World Cup in two years and it still seems very far away. the only thing missing from this group: the young people have already come a long way but, in terms of winning mentality, they can do much better.”

Then Lukaku explains the almost farewell and the logic behind it: “In Qatar I wanted to be there for my country because the coach and the team needed me. It was the first time in 29 years that football had affected me. I never thought about depression, but I cried every day for weeks. Even on holiday. Thierry Henry called me three times a day. My mother and my children were in Milan, but I had no energy.
