The Daily Mail attacks Tuchel: “Dark day for England, we are the laughing stock of world football”

Will be Thomas Tuchel iEngland’s new manager. A choice that was not appreciated by the entire English press, with the Daily Mail who harshly accused the English federation for having appointed the German as the new Technical Commissioner of the Three Lions

“Gareth Southgate may not have been liked by everyone, but he gave our national team an identity and gave the players and all of us a reason to believe. He approached tournaments with hope and expectations.

He wore the Three Lions on his player jersey and brought that strength and pride to work every day. He went from Euro 96 as a player to semi-finals and finals (two of them) as a coach. He was one of us.

Now we have Thomas Tuchel, a German with a questionable managerial past, and an FA moving like a headless chicken in a panic to get there before Manchester United. Lee Carsley clearly wasn’t the right man, but is that really the best we can do?

Has anyone learned from the “take the money and run” attitude of Sven Goran Eriksson and Fabio Capello?

And what does this say about the English coaching system? How offensive, ignorant and unforgivably shortsighted. Would Spain or France ever follow this approach?

Maybe we would have made an exception for the great Pep Guardiola, but now we have a mercenary who owes us nothing and will go through our football with a big check and without any connection to the fans or the players.

This is a dark day for English football. We are the laughing stock of world football.”
