Gravina: “At a certain point too many players called up. With Barella and Chiesa we will reach around 24-25”

Gabriele Gravina and the last disappointing European Championship played in Germany. The president of the FIGC, interviewed by ‘Messaggero Veneto’, expressed his opinion on the German expedition which ended with a bad defeat in the round of 16 against Switzerland. “How do you cancel such a disappointing European Championship? Simply not by canceling it, but by using that negative experience to start again. I don’t want to forget it, I keep repeating it to the boys, to the coach and the staff, to everyone. We must not make the same mistakes. Each one, after a week of reflection, with the manager in the lead at his estate in Tuscany, has assumed his responsibilities. Now the climate is more serene, we have reversed course, at a certain point with all those call-ups in the last 4-5 years we even had to double the training sessions. Now we have a couple of players like Barella and Chiesa back and we have a group of 24-25 athletes, naturally ready for new things.”

Then in another passage he added: “Criticism? Now we are stronger to accept it. Among other things, many times the flop on the pitch was used, the Azzurri were even attacked, to attack federal governance: unacceptable.”
