…with Stefano Marchetti –

“Gorini’s dismissal is something that hurts me. In more than twenty years I have never sacked a coach, and it was against my way of seeing football. Gorini worked with me for eighteen years, you can imagine how much it weighed on me. It was a difficult choice. I’ve never done it. And if Marchetti gets to sack a coach it means that we all need to give something more.” Cittadella CEO Stefano Marchetti told TuttoMercatoWeb.

Why did you choose Dal Canto?
“It seems to me, or rather I am convinced, that in addition to being a good coach, he has great motivation and the spirit of a Citadel. He is a hard worker, a simple person. And my story says that the most beautiful things are achieved through relationships.”

He had never sacked a coach. Given the relationship between you, how did you communicate the exemption to Gorini?
“With great difficulty. But Gorini proved to be a gentleman: he is an intelligent boy. After the exoneration he was the first to tell me: ‘you’ll see that we’ll save ourselves’. He knows what Cittadella is, he is a person I respect beyond football. And the Cittadella will always be his home. And in the future anything can happen. I will always help him.”

Why did he wait days before his dismissal?
“I never think on my gut after a defeat. I go in depth and try to look deep down. I never make instinctive choices. Sometimes you have to stay all night to metabolize. I thought it was right to introduce the coach on Monday to have the whole week.”

What do you expect from the new coach?
“I expect a job always done in symbiosis with the Cittadella staff that manages to rebalance everyone a bit. Our moment depends a lot on the head, we have to overcome this aspect.”

The next match you challenge Cosenza.
“There are many games to play. The one against Cosenza is important but so are the ones after. Let’s live well this week. Then there will be others. We are certainly not at the end of the championship. We need to rediscover our identity and the ability to be annoying in the right way.”
