Scorer of the winning goal in the 5-1 defeat against Atalanta, the 2006-born striker Jeff Ekhator is one of the few happy notes in Genoa’s start to the season. The 17-year-old footballer is taking advantage of the gaps in the rossoblù’s advanced department to shine and the club is appreciating his progress. For this reason, writes the newspaper ‘Il Secolo XIX’, the company has already taken steps to renew his contract until 30 June 2029 after he turns 18, i.e. next 11 November.
Currently busy with the Under 19 national team, Ekhator will return to Pegli only in the middle of next week and in the next match against Bologna he could be deployed in the starting eleven alongside Pinamonti given that Gilardino has to deal with an advanced department decimated by injuries : with Vitinha knocked out, Ekuban not yet ready and Ankeye in poor condition, Ekhator’s chances of playing increase dramatically
Last summer Ekhator expressed himself as follows on his arrival at Genoa: “How was I discovered by Genoa? In truth, I don’t know exactly, but my coach says that after a match at Don Bosco, Genoa looked for me. Sampdoria and Entella also did it, but the first choice was the Genoa. And today I’m here.”
