‘VAR Attwell is Luton fan’: Nottingham Forest fined £750,000 by FA

The Nottingham Forest was fined £750,000 and referred for comments published in April on the VAR of the game against Everton, Stuart Attwell. An independent regulatory commission found the accusation made by the Football Association to be well founded; the club complained about the failure to award three penalties during the match lost against i Toffees last season and, after the match, he wrote on his official X account: “Three extremely bad decisions, three penalties not awarded, which we simply cannot accept.

We advised PGMOL that VAR (Attwell) is a Luton fan before the match, but they didn’t change it. Our patience has been tested several times.”

Following the ruling, Nottingham Forest expressed anger: “We are particularly concerned that the FA, in its submissions, asked for a fine in excess of £1,000,000. We believe that this request, together with the subsequent fine, is completely disproportionate. The Club will appeal against the decision.” Forest also requested to be able to listen to match audio broadcast by VAR, a request which was granted by Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL).
