Shearer: “Everyone would like Carsley’s job. He has too many talented players”

The legend of English football Alan Shearerrecently spoke about the new England, entrusted to Lee Carsley on an interim basis after the end of the relationship with Southgate after the European Championship: “It’s never a problem to have too many good players; it’s only a problem when you don’t have enough,” he told Betfair. “The current job with England is exactly what a manager would want, given the quality of the players available. Lee Carsley has Saka, Foden, Bellingham, Palmer, Grealish and Gordon at his disposal, to name but a few, and I don’t care who he chooses to play as long as England get on the pitch, have success and win games.”

On the depth of the squad he added: “If he has to leave out and displease one or two players, so be it, but that’s the beauty of the current job with England: he will have to displease some because he has so many fantastic players. Foden won the award of ‘Player of the Year’ last year, and rightly so, but he has hardly played so far this season, while Palmer has hit the ground running.

Bukayo Saka was also incredibly good. Jude Bellingham had an injury, but is coming back, so the talent is incredible and they could fit into almost any team. We’re lucky they’re English.”
