Milan, because Fonseca was furious: the reconstruction of the two penalties ‘denied’ to Pulisic

The Milan club wants to put an end to the episodes of indiscipline that have characterized this start of the season for the Rossoneri team. If after the episode of cooling break which Theo Hernandez and Rafael Leao did not take on the occasion of Lazio-Milan, the club immediately decided to exonerate the two players, now the line is very different. After the two missed penalties against Fiorentina, Paulo Fonseca complained in front of the cameras about the behavior of Theo Hernandez and Tammy Abraham: “I’m pissed off, the penalty taker is Pulisic. It must never happen again”. The club is on the same wavelength, which is on the coach’s side and wants to adopt a hard line.

The ‘Gazzetta dello Sport’ on newsstands today reconstructs what happened on the two penalties. On the first penalty kicked by Theo Hernandez in injury time in the first half Fonseca didn’t even have time to intervene. On his birthday, the French full-back tried to give himself a goal from eleven meters and when the penalty was blown he immediately took the ball: Pulisic respected his seniority and didn’t even try to get close, Hernandez gave him a pat and he went away while Fonseca and his collaborators didn’t even have time to react: they would have expected greater determination from the American in claiming the ball, but this didn’t happen.

It went even worse with the second penalty. After Fonseca had reiterated out loud in the locker room that Pulisic is the penalty taker, here comes the contact in the area between Kean and Gabbia which led to the second penalty in favor of the Rossoneri. Once the foul was called, Tomori took the ball and handed it to his compatriot Abraham. Pulisic on this occasion claimed the ball, but the former Roma striker did not give it to him, pushing it away with his right arm. From the bench Fonseca shouted but no one did anything to avoid the mutiny: neither the two English players nor the captain Theo Hernandez who, after having missed the first penalty, should have intervened to re-establish the hierarchy on the pitch and instead did not Done.
