Rome after two consecutive victories in the Juric era, stumbles at U-Power Stadium against Monza, bottom of the table, with a disappointing 1-1. Despite an overall positive performance, the Giallorossi they failed to capitalize on the many opportunities created. Dovbyk gave Roma the lead, but Mota Carvalho then found the equalizer for the hosts, dashing their hopes of victory. The result, as well as frustrating given the performance of the Capitoline team, leaves a bad taste in the mouth for some episodes that were controversial and decisive.
In particular, the refereeing errors had an impact, with a clear penalty not awarded on Baldanzi in the final. Neither the referee nor the VAR deemed it appropriate to intervene, and this decision triggered – for the first time – a response from the Head of the Technical Area, Florent Ghisolfi. The episode was inexplicable, and Roma were deprived of an opportunity that could have changed the outcome of the match. After the match, the French sporting director expressed his disappointment at what happened, asking for respect for the team and the fans.
In essence, neither the control of the game nor the numerous shots taken (15) were enough, because in addition to the referee’s mistakes, the cynicism that is costing Roma dearly was lacking. Even Juric, while praising his team’s performance, highlighted the need to improve finishing and maintain greater composure in crucial moments.
Now, with the stop at the gates and a demanding match against Inter on his return, the team finds itself at a crossroads. There is no shortage of time to reflect, but the Giallorossi will have to find a concrete answer if they want to reverse course in a season that has certainly not been simple so far.
