From unidentified purchase to useful player until transfer on loan with right of redemption. Yacine Adli’s parable is quite particular, but tomorrow it will reach a new episode thanks to the match between ‘his’ current Fiorentina and ‘his’ Milan, scheduled for 8.45pm at the “Artemio Franchi” stadium in Florence.
His career with the Rossoneri
Purchased from Milan in the summer of 2021, Adli joined the Rossoneri only a year later, when he was one of the (few) reinforcements given to Pioli after the Scudetto in May 2022. The Frenchman, however, had a lot of difficulty getting on during his first Italian season; Pioli, in fact, deployed him slowly, without ever finding a well-defined tactical position for him. The opportunity then came the following year when, thanks to a change of role, from midfielder to midfielder, Adli found much more continuity on the pitch with 28 appearances in all competitions and one goal to his name. Last August, finally, the aforementioned loan transfer arrived to Fiorentina who could then redeem him in June, making Adli a Viola player in all respects.
Challenge between friends
Tomorrow, meanwhile, the number 29’s first challenge against his much-loved Milan will arrive. The Frenchman was always praised by AC Milan fans, even when he wasn’t playing, for his great attachment to the shirt, for the Curva Sud chants singing on the bench and for the affection he showed for the Rossoneri colours. Tomorrow, however, he will be an opponent: “It will be special to find brotherly friends again, but now I’m here in Florence where I feel good. We want to win and it will be a good match.”
