Samuel Iling Jr, sold by Juventus for capital gain. Taken from Aston Villa to sell Douglas Luiz

Samuel Iling Junior is one of the best young players in our Serie A. Left-footed winger who can play both as a full-back and as a winger, he can definitely explode with Bologna after a few seasons of ups and downs at Juventus. After all, he is still very young and has not completed a season as an undisputed starter. Paradoxically, he could still play for a second team, having not reached 50 appearances in Serie A. The margins for improvement are therefore difficult to distinguish and fully understand.

However, in the summer he was sold for 14 million plus bonuses to Aston Villa. Except, then two months later, to do like Barrenechea: go on loan to another team, with a slightly lower caliber, just to play more. So why did the Villans decide to spend 22 million (evaluation including both)?

Damián Vidagany, Monchi’s deputy, had thought of explaining it, because Iling and Barrenechea were included in the Douglas Luiz deal. “At the end of the season we found ourselves in a situation where we had to sell players to make a profit and avoid violating financial fair play. From May 20th to June 30th there is usually a holiday period, but for us it was not so the final transfer took place on June 30th. We had to fly to Las Vegas because Luiz was there with Brazil. We had to reach an agreement with three players. If one had not accepted, the operation would not have been successful you have to be afraid of selling players. The most important thing is to buy well; find a buyer for your players and find a player who gives the same guarantees as the one you are selling.” Samuel Iling Jr turns 21 today.
