Roma falls to Sweden: goals and highlights of the 1-0 defeat against Elfsborg

Roma’s adventure in the Europa League continues badly. After the draw on the first day, the Giallorossi led by Ivan Juric suffered a bad defeat in the Swedish away match against Elfsborg. In the end, Oscar Hiljemark’s boys won 1-0, with Baidoo’s goal from a penalty kick a few seconds before the end of the first half.

Juric’s words:
“There are many positive things, the team moved the ball well. I saw many opportunities, a lot of play. There is certainly room for improvement in the counterattacks, we weren’t able to score a goal and we accept that, but I didn’t see a negative performance nor confusion.”

Do you suffer from preventive markings and re-aggressions?
“We are not aggressive enough to block on the preventatives even in numerical superiority. It is an aspect to improve, but then there have been many other positive ones. We have done many good things to get to the opponent’s frontline, but then there you have to raise the level. With Dovbyk and Pellegrini we have built interesting things. There are things to improve on, we concede too much on the counterattacks, but I absolutely don’t want to throw everything away.”

What is the structural problem of Roma’s squad? What are you particularly working on?
“It’s useless to think further, I have a quality squad and I have to bring out the best. I’m satisfied with many things, others need to be improved. Now we need to concentrate on the matches, on Monza, for me today in terms of play we made progress impressive forwards. We missed the details, but thinking about what’s missing in the squad is counterproductive.”
