De Siervo: “Piracy? Bad habits in Italy, whether you like football or not it has a cost”

Guest of Forbes Sport & Innovation Forumthe CEO of Lega Serie A, Luigi De Siervoreturned to the topic of the fight against digital piracy: “It’s a topic of habits, this is a country that unfortunately differs in terrible habits – he reports Football & Finance – with piracy we are destroying football and therefore weakening the sport, because the money that comes from CONI is a part of the tax revenue that all sports in Italy generate. By weakening football, the entire FIGC chain is also weakened, in particular the minor leagues but also everything else.

They are often white collar workers like us who have a bit of a habit of illegally using content and this destroys the entire audiovisual world. Whether you like it or not, football has a cost and this is paid for by the revenues that arrive, including from the public. So the respect we owe the public is to treat this product as if it were our child”,

During his speech, De Siervo spoke about the hot topic relating to the investigations into the ultras: “This is the week of the stadiums, as you have read, so having the strength to go in depth, to clear the curves, to make the stadiums of seats open to families, to allow you to spend not only the two hours strictly linked to the match, but to allow you, like in any other stadium in the world, to be able to stay an hour and a half before, an hour after. The most fun thing of the state of Paris Saint Germain is that in reality the hospitality area continues for another two hours and therefore it is not that no one pushes you away or walks you to the door but in reality the goal is to be together even after we can recover and all this are resources that go together with those that we hope to progressively recover from piracy, all our estimates arrive at identifying the deficit linked to the world of piracy, the damage it produces to the system, at 300 million euros per year. Obviously not all of this part will be recoverable, but the objective is to recover a part. Ours is a complicated country that was managed, from this point of view, in an uncivilized manner until a few months ago. This Parliament had the privilege for once to do the right thing. They unanimously voted for an important law in both the House and the Senate: we have the first strong law in the world against piracy.”

Thus we return to the controversial platform Piracy Shield: “It is managed by the communications authority which is able to intervene upon notification from us too and in a few minutes the pirate site is shut down. But as always the battle between guards and thieves is endless, the fathers exceed the rules so they are always a step forward and for this reason another provision is currently being passed in the Chamber which stiffens penalties and creates automatic mechanisms for certain crimes also against those industrial centers which in some way facilitate the use of pirated content in support of the world of sport is also the greatest enemy. So let’s not lose heart, the battle is only just beginning. Ours is a country that invests more than others, it has been able to have a regulatory framework of reference. The attempt is to try to get those who use content to pay a fair price, we will all pay less”.
