Does Nuno Tavares’ impact surprise you? How long do you think Gigot needs to be in shape?
“They are two very important players for Lazio, they have strengthened us. I played with them in Marseille and therefore I know both of them well. I believe that Nuno is one of the strongest full-backs in the championship, he settled in very well straight away. He brings us a lot of quality, he already has made four assists and is one of the best in Europe. Gigot wasn’t at his best, he’s growing and his vigor will give us a big hand defensively.”
What will it take to hurt great defenses that you will face in the next games? Do you feel the duty to enter the top eight in the Europa League?
“We can go far in Europe, it is a difficult competition that I have played several times and I reached the final with Arsenal. We are a good team, we have excellent staff and we can do well by following their instructions. I know Nice and their coach, I had him when I was at Lorient, he had excellent results with Lens last year and he demands great intensity from his team. We will have to play an important match.”
You’ve already faced Nice in the past, they were very hot matches even among the fans. Do you have extra motivation to face tomorrow’s match?
“It’s a special match for any Frenchman abroad to face a French team. With Nice it’s even more special, with Marseille it’s a special match but now I’m thinking of Lazio. We have to respect the instructions given by the coach.”
Do you think this Lazio is stronger than last year’s?
“It’s a completely different team compared to last year, the coach’s philosophy has changed compared to last year. There are many new players and everything is different. We will judge by the objectives achieved at the end of the season, but I’m happy to be here with a super coach and I am convinced that we can achieve our goals at the end of the season.”
