Everyone stand up for mister Sven Goran Eriksson. It was just after 2.45pm when the former Sampdoria coach appeared on the pitch to greet his fans accompanied by president Matteo Manfredi and Roberto Mancini while images from 30 years ago were projected on the big screens. The five years spent in the shadow of the Lantern cannot absolutely be forgotten. The last trophy on the board in Bogliasco, the 1993-1994 Italian Cup, in fact bears his signature. Excited, the Swedish coach passed through two wings of his former players and around them, the almost 28 thousand of “Ferraris” who chant his name and turn back the clock on memories.
His boys on the pitch
There are many Sampdoria players from that era who didn’t want to miss it. In fact, they took their seats in the stands and wanted to hug their coach. From Lanna to Chiesa, from Invernizzi to Lombardo, from Mannini to Seedorf, from Salsano to Evani passing through Laigle, Bellucci, Maniero, Sacchetti, Nuciari, Maspero, Balleri, Ferron, Bonetti, La Monica, Dall’Igna and Iacopino. United in a single, ideal, embrace for Mister Eriksson.
The fans’ tribute
And there was no lack of affection from the public in the stands with two Blucerchiati flags unfurled in the two stands of the “Ferraris”. “We will support you in this battle too…welcome back mister” we read in the South steps. In the North however the success in the Italian Cup is remembered: “20-04-1994, thank you mister Eriksson”. In the Distinti instead, a banner is displayed with the words “Thank you Sven” in Swedish.
