A football control agency, from the Ministry of Sport: “The substance remains this”

(ANSA) – ROME, MAY 05 – “The draft with the article of law which provides for the creation of the Agency for the economic and financial supervision of professional sports clubs will not be rewritten. There will only be physiological changes but the substance will not change.” This was explained to ANSA by sources from the Ministry for Sport, who underlined, also in light of the controversies in football circles in recent hours, that “the president of the FIGC, Gravina, had been aware for some time of the work carried out on the creation of this Agency”.

“So the basic structure – they explain to the ministry – will remain the same but with some adjustments if valid ideas emerge from the public or institutional debate”. The concept of an “independent agency that would replace Covisoc remains when controlling clubs’ budgets and costs, but the final decision on whether or not clubs should be admitted to the championships would always fall to the federal council.

The ministry adds that “the corrective decree introduced in the summer of 2023 provides by state law that economic-financial controls must be timely and effective and that only the final measures are up to the federations”. (ANSA).
