Fabio Capello analyzed the derby won by Milan for the ‘Gazzetta dello Sport’. The former AC Milan coach complimented Matthew Cage not only for the goal that decided the match, but also for his defensive performance: “A true Milan fan and a serious guy. I’m very happy for him, I think it’s a reward for his work. And be careful: here too we have to say ‘well done Fonseca’ who preferred him to Pavlovic. It wasn’t an easy choice in such a delicate match”.
Then in another passage Capello added: “He deserves great compliments. I really liked Abraham and Morata. They are not centre-forwards in the penalty area, but they know what it means to move for the team, help, open up spaces, press, make that extra run. Milan’s victory began with their spirit of sacrifice. From my point of view, I would confirm Abraham and Morata as a pair for life, even in the future”.
For Capello the real turning point was the poor quality shown by Inter in the derby: “And it’s shocking to say it because the strength of the Italian champions lies in the quality of their midfield, which is by far the best in our Serie A. Inzaghi then decided to change the three midfielders in a block in the space of a few minutes. First Calhanoglu and Mkhitaryan went out, then Barella.”
