Fiorentina, Bove: “Lazio fans’ farewell to Cataldi is because he left something behind”

Edoardo Bove, Fiorentina midfielderspeaks at a press conference after the 2-1 victory over Lazio: “I thank the coach for his words. For me it is a positive responsibility, having it for a player is the most important thing. The pressure will give us a great push to do our best like today, we didn’t give an inch and in the end the incidents rewarded us. In the first half we were a bit too slow with the ball, in the second half instead we immediately got into the rhythm and we brought home a match that will give us the push for a better path”.

Did you see any fear in the team during the first half?
“We have to free our minds, there are many of us in the team and some of us have only known each other for a few weeks. Some mechanisms need to be learned by heart. Sometimes it takes more courage and lightheartedness. But when you are behind in the result it is absolutely not easy to turn it around, especially in Serie A”.

What is your favorite role?
“I like playing as a midfielder in a three-man or two-man midfield. Of course, with two I feel more at the centre of the game, with more touches of the ball you gain confidence and it always gets better. Even as a more advanced three-quarter player like the coach puts me in, it’s a fun role, you’re closer to the goal and you can score goals. I make myself available, precisely because we are so new, having the greatest possible versatility is still a quality”.

How did Cataldi see it? Why couldn’t you two stay in your realities in Rome?
“It’s not true that we didn’t manage to assert ourselves… Today we saw how the Lazio fans welcomed Danilo, it’s not a given. The fact that he left something in the fans’ memory is the most important thing. Danilo is the one I’ve been with the most in this period, we’re looking for a house and we’re in a hotel together. We both know how it feels, but we have to focus on what we left to the place we left and it’s not a given. Especially in today’s football. They say that there are no more flags and it’s not just the players’ fault, it makes me laugh because the clubs look after their own interests without scruples. This led me and Danilo to leave, we were no longer at the centre: nothing wrong with that, take note of that. Here we immediately felt at home”.

Is this the turning point victory?
“It’s definitely an important match, not getting points today would have been a problem. Let’s focus on how and on the spirit. We need to improve, of course, individually and on tactics, but we’ve been working on it for two weeks and the thing that must not be missing is attachment to the match. Never disunited, there’s always time to get back to the matches. If each of us has this spirit everything becomes easier”.
