Ante Rebic, raised in Italy but exploded in the Bundesliga. A gamble for Lecce

Ante Rebic returned to Serie A after a year, fifteen appearances at Besiktas and zero goals. From Milan he ended up at Lecce after suffering from physical problems, but his is a challenge to return to the top, perhaps dragging the Salento team to their third consecutive salvation. “I want to show everyone that I am the same as three years ago. In the last two years I have suffered due to an injury, which I resolved in April. A month ago the director and the coach convinced me. I haven’t thought about it too much, I know that at this moment I have to play consistently and show everyone that I am ready”.

A career that he spent mostly in Italy, between Fiorentina, Hellas Verona and Milan. But he found his America in the Bundesliga, with Eintracht Frankfurt coached by Kovac. There he earned the national team – like the 2018 World Cup, where he had a leading role – and the call of Milan, precisely, in an exchange with Andre Silva. With the Rossoneri he won a Scudetto only two years ago.

How did Pantaleo Corvino convince him to play for Lecce? “The first time I told him that I made him rich by selling him to Frankfurt, now he has to give up some money. It was a joke. Three years ago he won the championship with Milan scoring many goals. I called Pioli and asked him if Rebic is more of a striker or a winger. He was Giroud’s assistant and won a championship. He adapted to the conditions at Lecce, so he is our new player”. Today Ante Rebic turns 31.
