Bergamini’s death, 35 years later a possible turning point: 23 years of imprisonment requested from his ex-girlfriend

The turning point in the trial for the death of Denis Bergaminidating back to 1989. As reported by Sportmediaset the prosecutors have requested a 23-year prison sentence for Isabella Internò, ex-girlfriend and sole defendant. The latter ended up on trial in 2021 for voluntary homicide (in complicity with unknown persons) with the aggravating circumstances of premeditation, abject and futile motives, and torture. According to the magistrates of the Castrovillari Prosecutor’s Office – the prosecutor Alessandro D’Alessio and the prosecutor Luca Primicerio -, he was asphyxiated with a scarf or a bag with a maneuver done by two people and subsequently placed on the asphalt where he was overtaken by a truck on state road 106 in Roseto Capo Spulico.

Yesterday the public prosecutor Primicerio had stated: “The forensic medical experts who carried out the examinations on Bergamini’s body in 2017 – he said – tell us that the footballer was the victim of violent mechanical asphyxia, before Raffaele Pisano’s truck (the driver of the truck under which the body was found, ed.) overtook him. Therefore, Internò and Pisano’s versions are completely false. Bergamini was already dead before the truck arrived. All the expert tests speak of the compatibility of Bergamini’s body with compression asphyxia with a soft vehicle”.

No diving under the truck by Bergamini as hypothesized by his ex-girlfriend. It would also be a crime of passion. The sentence of the Court of Assizes presided over by Paola Lucente is expected for next October 1st. Today in the courtroom were also present Bergamini’s sister, Donata, together with the two lawyers.
