Alex Ferguson Confides: “I Miss Coaching. Europe? United Should Always Be Involved”

“I retired 11 years ago today, so you find a way to adapt.” That’s how the legendary Manchester United coach began Sir Alex Fergusonas well as the symbolic coach of British football over the last thirty years, in the interview given to the microphones of BBC Sports. “To keep myself out of trouble? Exactly,” added the 82-year-old Englishman.

The memories are still fresh in Sir Alex Ferguson’s mind, after having coached the club continuously for a period of almost 27 years. Red Devils and to have engraved his name on the milestone of football following the 38 trophies lifted to the sky for the English club. Until in the 2012-13 season he decided to retire from the profession, being replaced by David Moyes. And then one question above all could only be asked to a sacred monster of football like him: does he miss coaching?

The answer is not long in coming. “I miss it sometimes. I think about my early years, after I retired, we got to the European final. I said to Cathy (wife, ed.): ‘This is what I miss’. The big matches, the European games. So I went to a lot of the European finals, because I find something… that I can relate to. What I would have done and would have liked to do every day, because these are the big events that a club like Manchester United should always be involved in.”
