Retegui’s report cards: he works hard without the ball, the missed penalty weighs heavily

Atalanta scares the Gunners, but the penalty missed by Network weighs like a millstone: with Arsenal, on the first day of the new Champions League, it ends 0-0 and the error from the penalty spot by the Italian-Argentine striker inevitably brings the rating down. 5.5 is the rating we find on the columns of The Sports Gazette on newsstands this morning: “It’s a shame because he works hard without the ball and keeps Saliba on his toes, but he stumbles on the penalty and especially on the rebound: the header could and should have angled him.”

Same vote from Allsports: “In the first half he did a lot of dirty work and a lot of back-handed work, but he stained his performance with a penalty that could have been kicked better.” TMW Retegui deserves a 6 in the report card: “Against Gabriel the work is complex, you need physique and nastiness. He misses a penalty, but it doesn’t matter: the boy will make it, you just have to not be afraid to take penalties”.
