A memory of Schillaci?
“He’s a player who I had the pleasure and honor of marking both when he was at Messina and at Juventus. He’s always remained a humble guy. I remember that when he reached the top after the ’90 World Cup, I marked him the following year at Juve and I remember at the Delle Alpi that I made some very heavy tackles on him. I only got a warning from the referee, I apologized to Schillaci and he very calmly stood up and said to me ‘No, this is your job and you’re doing the right thing’. I was truly amazed, almost embarrassed by those words. And I’ve never forgotten those words”.
How do you comment on De Rossi’s dismissal?
“Bad, undeserved. You can tell it comes from people who aren’t in football. There it was a decision by the owners. Then take Juric who has a contract until June, who if he makes two mistakes has the dressing room on his mind. It means you’re not doing things rationally. You should have given De Rossi time. It’s an absurd decision, I’m close to De Rossi. And I say: we don’t want to grow Italian coaches. He’s someone who could have grown within an environment he knows. Give him time, it doesn’t make sense to do this”.
Milan, what do you think of Ibrahimovic’s words?
“I read an article in the Gazzetta the day after that criticizes Ibra and says he should call Galliani to get some advice. Being a manager is another thing. He went up against someone like Boban who is intelligent, witty, who answered him impeccably and who asked him the question that all fans ask themselves. It’s true that perhaps the role of the sporting director is different compared to years ago, but he has to stay close to and with the team. If he’s not there, it means he’s not doing his job. He has to live the environment, because then he can’t shoot at the players or he’s not credible. He has to understand the dynamics of a changing room that is being formed”.
Did Inter impress you against City?
“No. We’re just starting out, it’s a very important draw but it’s also true that we’re just starting out for both teams. They have the strength and the ability to get to the end of the Champions League. Inter are among those big teams that can do it.”
Juve-Napoli, a challenge between Motta and Conte. Who can have the biggest impact?
“Both have an impact, it’s true that we’re just at the beginning. Conte was in difficulty after a few days, but I continue to maintain that he shouldn’t have gone to Naples, because they expect to win and he has this pressure, which he likes. We’ll see who will have the most impact”.
