Atalanta, Gasperini: “Retegui played his best game since he’s been here, he deserved the goal”

The penalty missed by Retegui? It’s one of the questions asked in the press conference Gian Piero Gasperinicoach of theAtalanta that after the goalless draw againstArsenal – a match valid for the first day of the ‘championship phase’ of the 2024/25 Champions League – responded like this: “He played his best match since he’s been here, he deserved the goal”.
Then in another passage he added: “I’m satisfied with the performance, it’s a good point. It’s normal, there’s the regret of the missed penalty, going ahead at that moment would have been a reward for the whole team. It was a very useful match for us, we played against a great team, we come out of this match with a performance from the attackers in the defensive phase that had never been there before, this helped the collective performance of the whole defense”.

During the exchange, Gasperini also praised Juan Cuadrado, a winger who arrived as a free agent: “He’s a strong player, he could also become useful in attack. We had more energy towards the end, I had the feeling that Arsenal were a bit satisfied, we still had the right energy, but it wasn’t easy.”
