Champions League begins, Seedorf: “Curious to see the new format. Real Madrid are the team to beat”

Interviewed by today’s edition of the Sports Gazettethe former AC Milan midfielder Clarence Seedorf spoke about the new Champions League that will start today: “I’m curious. I liked the previous formula, the wait for the big matches was part of the show. But let’s give the new format time to show what it is like. The favorite? History tells us that the team to beat is Real Madrid, but many can compete. The gap has narrowed and there are no easy matches: that’s the beauty of it.

I am convinced that as always Ancelotti will find the balance at Real, even with Mbappé. Having the same system will allow Guardiola to continue working on the details at City, an aspect he is very good at. The PSG team remains among the most competitive in Europe. Mbappé’s exit could make the group more responsible.

What path do you imagine for the Italians? Inter, Milan and Juventus have the duty and the squads to obtain direct qualification for the second phase. Atalanta will have difficult matches, but can aim high. Bologna will be able to treasure this experience and enjoy it. As for the three historic greats, Inter is a mature and solid team, Milan has European DNA and Juve has come close to winning the Champions League again many times”.
