Inter, Frattesi finds his place back at home. It’s only his fourth as a starter in the league

You could call it the strange case of Davide Frattesi. In reality there isn’t that much that’s strange, it’s that the former Sassuolo midfielder has found himself a space, quite important with his goals from the bench, in the ScudettoInter. Only, not as an owner. And perhaps not even what he expected when he arrived in Milan. Not that there’s any problem behind it, mind you.

Frattesi is the fourth best scorer in the season of Simone Inzaghi’s Nerazzurri. Only Lautaro, Calhanoglu and Thuram are better. Seven goals, plus five assists: here is his haul. Mkhitaryan is stuck at two (but there are eleven assists), Barella ditto with seven assists. The paradox is that this result was achieved despite being fifteenth in terms of seasonal effort. Frattesi, to be clear, he played, minutes in hand, just over a third compared to the three starting players in the Inter midfield. More of a real reserve, rather than a co-owner as one might expect from the most expensive purchase of last summer’s transfer window.

His fourth match as a starter in this championship will come with Sassuolo, where the gap compared to Barella-Calha-Miki becomes even wider. In what was his home, Frattesi finds the air he will probably breathe between now and the end of the season, that of a shirt from the first minute. If he plays with the Sardinian – from the beginning it would be the first time – it will also be an interesting experiment in view of future alchemies, which will be even more complicated by the arrival of Zielinski who will tactically be the deputy (?) of the Armenian. Next season will be a theme sooner or later: Frattesi doesn’t claim space, now the smiles are big, aided by the triumph in Serie A. But it is reasonable to hypothesize that he expects a little more.
