Rangers Chairman Bennett Resigns Due to Health Reasons, Gilligan Replaces Him

John Bennett has resigned from his post as chairman of Glasgow Rangers “with immediate effect due to ill health”. The 61-year-old took over at Douglas Park in 2023, after three years as vice-chairman and eight years on the board.

“The board would like to sincerely thank John for his significant service and commitment over the past nine years and wishes him a speedy and full recovery. His and his family’s privacy is requested to be respected at this time,” the official statement read.

“Former director, John Gilligan, will act as chairman on an interim basis until a permanent replacement is appointed. The board thanks John for stepping in at such short notice and believes his experience of senior corporate roles over a long and distinguished career, as well as his position as a former Rangers director, will be invaluable at this time.”

Rangers are currently without a chief executive following the summer departure of James Bisgrove, and have yet to play at Ibrox Stadium this season due to a delay in renovations. After four games at Hampden Park, they return to Ibrox for next Saturday’s League Cup tie against Dundee.
