Bologna, Thiago Motta: “Now the Champions League, then we’ll sit down and talk about my future”

The Bologna coach Thiago Motta he spoke after the 0-0 draw against Torino, with the rossoblù coach appearing particularly happy: “It’s impossible to be more proud than that, I love these guys. They played another very difficult match, we fought and fought on all balls, this was what we had to do. Other teams here have suffered a lot, today we needed to fight and fight and the boys showed that they were ready for anything, to play but also to go into battle. I am satisfied with the performance and the point”.

The ranking is satisfying…
“When I see these guys in the dressing room I remember the last match of the pre-season, against AZ. I remember the faces of the guys, today being in this situation is wonderful. I have to underline that we have done something historic for the club, for the city and for the fans, who deserve it. Coming back to Europe after 22 years is thanks to everyone, from the president to the management to those who work at the club, everyone gives their all. And above all thanks to these guys who have done something extraordinary, beautiful We’re almost there, the route we’ve taken… We’re at kilometer 39, we still have 3 to go, so we’re not far from finishing our marathon. It’s a very important, fantastic goal, we want to try our hardest to get to the Champions League.”

The difficulties of the past meant that he became this coach…
“Difficulties make us grow and improve, we need time, all the coaches. We need to put the work into practice, get a group to play together. However, football doesn’t give that often, because it is judged on results. With PSG we did very well in 2019 , the year of Spezia with many changes we had an exceptional year… For me they are all like children, that season we fought a lot in Bologna it was difficult at the beginning, but the boys always gave everything afterwards things have changed. Other teams seemed stronger at the beginning of the season, but we have always faced them with our style. I’m proud and happy, the boys understand that sometimes the game can be expressed well while at other times we need to adapt, like tonight.” .

After having achieved great goals, is it better to stay and open a cycle or is it better to move on?
“It’s not a question of being on one side or the other… , let’s get to the end of the 42nd kilometer and see how we will finish the marathon. We want to try all the way for the Champions League, for the rest everything is secondary, my future or that of the players is important, at the right time we will sit down and see which ones they will be the conditions for continuing or not continuing. However, I will always do the best for this club because since I arrived I have always been very happy.”
