De Canio: “With players like Thauvin and Sanchez, a goal for Udinese is almost a certainty”

Luigi DeCanioformer coach of Udinese among others, has given a long interview dedicated to the current issues of the Friulian club in the black and white jersey to the columns of Venetian Messenger. Starting from the fact that, like his team 24 years ago, Runjaic’s boys are called to defend their lead against Parma.

Remember De Canio: “It’s a very curious coincidence that brings back indelible memories, but they are two very different situations, especially because this Parma is a newly promoted team, while the one we faced then can undoubtedly be considered among the strongest teams ever built in Italian football”. Other points of contact between the two teams? The coach says: “Just one, but very important, the equipment in attack. And here I am referring to Thauvin and Sanchez, when he returns, because with players like that, goals are almost a certainty”.

What is the mistake to avoid? “In Udine there will never be the risk of excessive enthusiasm. At the time we were aware that the championship was one of the famous “seven sisters” and no one thought of fighting for the title, even if we then returned to normality with some excess nervousness and too much tension linked precisely to what we had tasted”. Conclusion on Pecchia’s Parma: “Fabio is one of those few players who has studied and time has proven him right. His Parma is dynamic, aggressive and knows how to attack by bringing many men into the offensive phase, it is not just about counterattacks and they are not satisfied”.
