16.10 – The President of Lega Serie A, Lorenzo Casinispeaks at the press conference after today’s meeting of the top league clubs.
16.30 – The press conference begins, Casini introduces: “The agenda was quite concise, the most important topic was the one related to federal issues. On the one hand, the assembly planned to update the document of reforms proposed by Serie A already prepared in February with additional data and elements; on the other, the request for names for the independent commission for the evaluation of the financial sustainability of professional clubs was discussed. In doing this, we updated ourselves: we have to indicate some names by September 20, to the Federation and then have them sent to the government. With respect to the federal path, the assembly reiterated the need to arrive at the assembly on the 4th with a proposal to modify the statute consistent with the path proposed by Serie A”.
Were there any particular themes in reference to the document?
“We have already been working on a new version in the past few weeks, which has brought both updated data, because some were not available in February, also relating to what happens in other leagues. There has been an update work that has become necessary over time, for the rest at the moment there are no new proposals. From February to today some things have changed, there has been the amendment relating to the weight of professional leagues and other new features”.
The players complain about the amount of play, have you talked about it?
“We haven’t talked about it today, there are many matches but in the last twenty years the matches in Serie A have not increased but rather those in other competitions. It’s a topic that needs to be addressed, together with the players. There are various proposals, they are issues that we haven’t addressed today”.
Haven’t you set the date for the elective assembly?
“We recalled the procedure provided by the regulations: at the moment the date of the election of the federal president has not been set and it is from that date that the days for the election of the members will be counted down. The need to get to November 4th was reiterated, then the elective assembly will be set after that date and at that point it will be possible to schedule everything. Also because the Lega Serie A has a number of federal councilors that we hope will be higher from November 4th onwards, and this will weigh: which is why a decision will be made after November 4th”.
Have there been any discussions about President Commisso’s words after the attacks on Inter, Milan and Juventus?
“These are issues that concern the controller, the FIGC, not those controlled. I would like to say that it is in our documents, also thanks to the contribution of Fiorentina with the late Joe Barone and also with the current managers, there is a lot of attention to sustainability. It was the Lega Serie A that asked for and obtained an equalization of the UEFA criteria for licenses. In this respect, the Lega Serie A is very careful”.
Any news on the Super Cup?
“As for the time, the indication is early January, however let’s remember that we are talking about three matches involving four teams.”
Will you bring written proposals on November 4th?
“Let’s say that the FIGC has a written statute: if you want to change it, you will have to write it. The Leagues are also governed by FIFA and UEFA rules, if we look at the federal statute there are rules dedicated to the leagues: we will propose to achieve greater autonomy for the leagues”.
Yesterday, the federal president Gravina addressed the issue of the investigation into the alleged Perugia dossier, is there a latent tension with Lotito too?
“I don’t know, we haven’t talked about this and it’s not a topic we talk about.”
Instead, have you addressed the issue of the elections in Lega B?
“No, we haven’t talked about it: regarding what emerged from the electoral trend, I spoke with President Balata who explained the reasons to me, there was a bit of surprise about the timing. President Balata clarified everything to me”.
