Germany, Ter Stegen: “I want to achieve success in the national team and inspire an entire country”

The goalkeeper of Germany Marc Andre Ter Stegen spoke at the press conference: “First goalkeeper? Obviously it was a different feeling to come here. The group hasn’t changed much except for three or four players. I’m looking forward to the new tasks and obviously I want to achieve success. I’m happy with all the nice words that my colleagues and the coach have said to me.

My goal has always been to be number one. Unfortunately, I have not been able to do that in the last ten years. In Manuel Neuer I had someone in front of me with a truly fantastic career who was able to withstand the pressure. Congratulations again to him for everything he has achieved, with the national team and at club level.

Disappointments from the past? There are always moments and situations where you think that it won’t work anymore. In recent years there have always been close decisions, most of which have gone in Manuel Neuer’s direction. I think I handled it professionally, but of course it was often very disappointing. My goals? In the past I have always had the same goal: I want to be at the highest level in every game and every minute. So nothing changes, I want to achieve success in the national team and inspire an entire country.”
