Spain, Carvajal: “We support Vinicius. Against any situation of racism”

Speaking today at a press conference on the eve of the match against Serbia, valid for the first day of the Nations League, the Spain defender Dani Carvajal commented on Vinicius’ statements: “It is enough to comment that we are totally against any situation of racism in stadiums. I know what Vini suffers and we support him both internally and publicly.

I think LaLiga is improving and protocols are being developed so that crazy people cannot return to sporting events. But beyond these people, I do not think that Spain does not deserve to celebrate a World Cup. There is no doubt that Spain is not a racist country. Since I was little, I grew up with many nationalities in my neighborhood, in Leganés. Spain is not a racist country.

Me, captain of the national team? It would be something very nice, ten years later, to step onto the field as captain of the national team. Those around me know what it means to me to be the captain of Spain. I hope to be able to achieve it tomorrow. The Ballon d’Or? It is clear that, being a defender… in football, what shines the most is the goal. But I am very happy to have the chance to win it, it refers to the great year I had last year. My family and I are very proud”.
